Standard Ranking Protocol
To try and maintain as much integrity in our rankings as possible we will follow these rules where applicable.
1. There are 11 sections throughout NYS. These sections are a very close replica of NYSPHSAA sections.
2. Rankings will be for Athletes that compete outside of high school and college TEAMS.
3. We will rank all forms of 5k’s – cross country, road race and Track.
4. Rankings are based off where an athlete LIVES. That means you can compete out of section or out of state and the time will count towards the SECTION YOU LIVE IN.
5. If an option between “chip time” or “gun or clock time” we will default to chip time.
6. If there is a tie between two athletes, we will use the race that has a USATF certified course. If they are both certified courses the athlete that ran the time FIRST will be ranked ahead of the athlete that ran it SECOND. If NEITHER have a USATF certified course, if an event utilizes FAT timing whereas the other utilizes hand timing the FAT time will take precedent over hand timed.
7. Starting 2026 The ranking season will start and end in November.

1. To try to encourage competition and develop post-collegiate athletes to help them reach their full potential.
2. To encourage and support quality events.
3. Develop a Championship style event with athletes earning a spot to compete based on rankings.
4. Promote participation in Local 5k's and Run Clubs.
